Sustainable dog walking

For Traci Bisson, her dog walking business is much more than just walking dogs.

The business – It Takes A Village Pet Care – is rooted in a principle called social permaculture.

Bisson explains it this way: “Social permaculture has ethics and principles that you can follow. The ethics basically are: Care of people, care of the Earth, and fair share of giving back. Any business decision we make from day one has been based on those ethics.”

The permaculture concept originated in the 1970s with Australian ecologists Bill Mollison and David Holmgren. Their concept of “permanent agriculture” grew to be known as permaculture. As Mollison has been quoted saying: “Permaculture is a philosophy of working with, rather than against nature; of protracted and thoughtful observation rather than protracted and thoughtless labor; and of looking at plants and animals in all their functions, rather than treating any area as a single-product system.” READ STORY>>
